The LORD is good
Indeed, I cannot agree with the psalmist more. The LORD is good, and goodness is embodied in Him alone. For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of GOD. The good that we have measures poorly in the eyes of GOD, no matter how hard we try. Yet, it is this contrast that helps us see and appreciate the good in GOD.
I thank GOD that He is not afraid to identify with me and my sins. After all, He was the One who took my sins upon His body at the cross. He is familiar with my sins, and the temptations and trials that I face. Now, He longs for me to be familiar with His love, to understand how it is sufficient to cover a multitude of sins in my life and those of others, and to apply His love over every shortcoming, every unmet expectation, and every trespass.
His mercies are everlasting
The LORD is also patient and His mercies are everlasting. Each day I come to Him in dire need of His mercies and forgiveness, and I have never failed to receive them, not even once. The tax collector "stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'" - Luke 18:13. And Jesus said, "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. (v.14). Justification for a tax collector, scumbag, public enemy, and me. Always.
The thief at the cross, condemned for perhaps a lifetime of transgressions, turned to Jesus and said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. Jesus answered him, 'I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.'" - Luke 23:42-43
Is this fair? No, it is not, but that's exactly how mercy works. This is the mercy we receive from GOD, and it is the same mercy that others need to experience from us.
His truth endureth to all generations
GOD's Word is truth, truth that lasts, truth that makes a difference in a corrupt and degenerating society. In a world where lies are openly paraded as alternatives, and moral truths compromised for convenience or selfish gains, GOD's truth is the only one that remains, the only beacon shining out of the intense darkness that has enveloped this world. It is our only hope, the only foundation that stays strong when others are being eroded.
The psalmist says in Psalm 119:105: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path". And again in v24: "Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors". GOD knows the way and His Word shows the way. His Word directs us above the confusion and confounding of moral values. It will expose the lies plainly as lies. Hold on to GOD's Word for life, for "for they are life to those who find them and health to a man's whole body" - Proverbs 4:22
Love,
Thomas
