There is an endless song, echoing through my soul, I hear its music ring.
Even though I face life's storms, yet I'll carry on, clinging to my Rock and King.
How can I keep from singing Your praise, how can I ever say enough, how amazing is Your love.
How can I keep from shouting Your name, I know I am loved by the King and it makes my soul want to sing.
And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made. Genesis 2:2-3 NKJV.
God rested on the seventh day because: "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good." Genesis 1:31 NIV. God's creative work was completed - everything was in place, it was perfect; so God proclaimed the seventh day complete and He rested. The Hebrew verb translated "rested" is the origin of the noun "Sabbath."
After leaving Egypt, while wandering in the wilderness, Moses instructed the Israelites to observe the Sabbath, or the rest day.
He said to them, "This is what the LORD commanded: 'Tomorrow is to be a day of rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD." Genesis 16:23 NIV.
"Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you. Six days you shall labour and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work......Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath. Deuteronomy 5:12-15 NIV.
Rest is a serious business with God, and God meant business when He instructed the people of Israel to observe the rest day. Not only were the Israelites commanded to observe the Sabbath in remembrance of their delivery from slavery in Egypt. They were also commanded to do no work in it. They were to be productive in labour six days but commanded to observe the seventh day as a "rest day" unto God.
Life is filled with many demands and distractions, when we really just need to be focused on a few things. Truth is, we won't be able to carry anything into our graves or eternity for that matter. Hence, how shall we live the remaining days of our lives? I reckon live a simple but rich life. Investing your time in what really matters. Time with God, and time with man. We can't buy time but we can decide what to do with it. And we really only have that many hours each day and that many years to live.
Twelve days into the new year. A good time to remind ourselves that we can choose to face the same things, situations, people, and fears in life with a new approach. It's all in the head. How and what we see determines how and what our response would be. Good or bad, GOD is in control.
God bless!
