GOD told Abram:"Leave your country, your family, and your father's home for a land that I will show
you.I'll make you a great nation and bless you. I'll make you famous; you'll be a blessing. I'll bless those who bless you; those who curse you I'll curse. All the families of the Earth will be blessed through you." So Abram left just as GOD said, and Lot left with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. Abram took his wife Sarai and his nephew Lot with him, along with all the possessions and people they had gotten in Haran, and set out for the land of Canaan and arrived safe and sound. Genesis 12:1-6 The Message.
Ever wonder what made Abram leave the country he and his father's household had settled down in? Was there something upon his heart when the LORD knocked its door? Was he already waiting upon the LORD as he pondered upon what was next for his life? Whatever it was, he responded to the LORD's call in all earnestness and uprooted entirely from his adopted home. I am not sure how many camels were used in the course of migration for Abram seemed to be an established man by then. If Abram had lived to be one hundred and seventy-five years old [Genesis 25:7], he would have already lived out three-seventh of his life when he acted on his faith, not knowing what lied ahead.
From Genesis 11:27-32, we could see that Terah, Abram's father hailed from Ur of the Chaldeans. And it was Terah, who took Abram and his grandson Lot, and Sarai, Abram's wife, out from Ur to go to the land of Canaan, however, when they arrived at Haran, they settled there. Was there some unfinished business that GOD had to remind Abram of after his father had passed away? Could it be that GOD had intended more for Abram beyond the borders of Haran? What about you and I? What lies beyond our "Haran"?
