Passionate Dedication

"I am wind.I can run." These words dropped into my head and pumped up my heart as I took to the road for my third road race last Sunday. They filled my heart as my head dictated the run. It would be 21km of listening to my body, fine tuning my pace at different parts of the race, and maneuvering myself between other runners in the race. Some had group support, some had another to pace them, I ran with Jesus.

I did not set a world record in the race except that it turned out to be a better timing for me. I had finished stronger as compared to the last race, and managed to shave a few minutes off the timing of my previous race. It was enough for me, it was what I considered God-sent. A more conditioned body shouldered a more focused mind.

My twin brother ran in the race as well. I took off at a faster pace at the start of the race and soon lost sight and sound of him and his pacing partner. The only thing in my head - "I am wind. I can run."

With one-third of the race distance left to cover, my brother showed up beside me. I am not much of an eater and by now was pretty low on fuel and was thirsty. That was when he teased me about meeting the timing which I had set out for myself before the race, and he proceeded to hand me an isotonic drink from his drink belt. For the last 7km, he would hand me another drink from his reserve which was running very low. Consequently, he would carry on ahead of me for the last stretch of the race. I stayed focused on finishing strong.

I thanked the LORD as I crossed the finishing line. Grateful for finishing the race and finishing strong. My brother was waiting for me to come in at the finishing line. I said so many prayers the night before, and I knew at least three were answered at the end of the race.

When being a part of something larger than yourself becomes a part of you, it is no longer about experience but fulfilling your calling in life. This one is for God who knew my substance before I was formed; my twin brother for living out passionate dedication; and Tweet, the finish was incomplete without your presence.

I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of. John 10:10 The Message.
