The secret of a great marriage

Last Saturday, I was at the wedding of 2 good friends whom I have known for years since we served in the Mighty KIDS children ministry. They courted for 12 long years, longer than I have been married. So when I heard from the groom that he was sending me an invitation card, I thought, it's about time.

At the wedding, the officiating pastor was kind enough to share his secret of a great marriage with those present. He's been married for close to 20 years so that qualifies him to say something along these lines. So here goes. He says that just as pipes and similar stuff need super-strength glue to keep them together, a strong marriage needs a glue known as C.A.R.E. (I thought he was about to say "LOVE"). So what does C.A.R.E. stands for?

C - oncern
A - ttention
R - espect
E - ncouragement

These are self-explanatory, and basically derived from Love. If we love someone, we will always be concerned; we will pay attention even to minor details in caring for each other; we will uphold respect for each other, and of course, we will seek to encourage & support each other.

Simple enough to know, but quite another thing to practise consistently.

May this be a challenge to all of us who relate to another human being for most part of our life, to seal your precious relationships with the glue of C.A.R.E.

God bless,
Thomas
