But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
- Isaiah 40:31.
I had only stepped and stood by the river for a few seconds 'fore I lifted my eyes and saw a hawk soaring in the sky. It caught my attention and my eyes followed its flight. I realized that it stayed in the air as it was being carried by the wind beneath its wings. I remembered the times when I sunk so low that the only thing that lifted and sustained me was none but the loving grace of God. And when I was high and alive in the Spirit, it was the same loving grace of God that raised me up. There is a song sung by Josh Groban, "You raised me up". Whenever I hear that song, the lyrics would so touched my heart that gratefulness would well up inside of me for a God who believes in me. A God who thinks me worthy to call Him by name, who sticks closer than a brother. I have no beauty but He sees me beautiful. I am not worthy but He raised me up.
The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough places smooth; the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken." - Isaiah 40:3 - 5.
The wilderness is a lonely place. No person in his or her right mind would be crying out in the wilderness, well, unless you are screaming for help. Most people stay away from it, from the beasts and the unknown predators out there. Unless one is made for the wilderness and has experienced it, one familiar with its crooks and nooks, where locusts and wild honey is a common diet. It may be the 21st century where we are now but through my mind's eyes I can see John the Baptist, gruffly, tanned, covered with a layer of dirt, unfashionably, not to mention, INSANELY, dressed in camel's hair; crying out loud, something unbeknownst. But boy is he audacious! And man, is he sure! Well, good thing John's gone back to the LORD now, otherwise he would still be sitting out there by himself crying his message, His message. But keep watch, at the end of it all, He is going to make some earth-shaking transformation.
