Loving Judas

This Christmas, I understand what it means to wash Judas's feet. The unconditional love that Jesus gave to Judas culminated in his cowardly betrayal, that regrettably resulted in his overwhelming remorse and suicide.

We love because GOD first loved us. No one loves with the anticipation of being betrayed, much less a desire to see the betrayer come to grief. 1 Corinthians 13:7 says that love "always hopes". Of course it does. We hope for a better outcome, for an improvement, for something good. That's why we love in the first place.

But there will always be Judases. The apostle Paul encountered Alexander the metalworker. David was betrayed by his son Absalom, and Joseph his brothers. Even Peter denied knowing Christ when his life was at stake.

In the same verse in 1 Corinthians, it also says love "always perseveres". We love, Judases notwithstanding.
