Beyond Yonder

I think I've heard that voice before
And I've got to hear You just once more
'Cos the dreams that You've been building deep inside
Lie broken now before me and I cry

I don't want another plan
'Cos Lord, You know I've made my stand
That I only do the things that You command
So please help me now to hear and understand, Oh......

Is that really You, O Lord?
Calling my name out now?
Is that really You, O Lord?
Showing me higher ground?

You say to gain my life I must die
To all the dreams I've held inside
And as I give them up and lay aside my pride
Somehow I can hear You calling me to bigger dreams and higher heights

Is that really You, O Lord?
Calling my name out now?
Is that really You, O Lord?
Showing me higher ground?

I've never gone that far, I'm just afraid to start
But O Lord I know it's true, that voice is really You
Calling me, calling me, I hear You calling me

Yes, that's really You, O Lord
Calling my name out now
Yes, that's really You, O Lord
Showing me higher ground

("Is That Really You, O LORD" by Bob Fitts)

Gone were the days when he would stroll down the majestic halls of the palace. When in a fit of righteous anger, he killed an Egyptian slave master who was beating one of his Hebrew brethren.
From the prince of Egypt, he became a man wanted for murder. When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midian.
Exodus 2:15 NKJV. Through the years, the vastness and silence of the desert would swallow up his hotheadedness, and impregnate him with sensitivity and watchfulness of his surrounding and for his flock.

Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.
And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.
Then Moses said, "I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn." So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses! Moses!" And he said, "Here I am." Exodus 3:1-4 NKJV.

"Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt." But Moses said to God, "Who am I that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?" So He said, "I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain." Exodus 3:9-12 NKJV.

Moses would have thought that tending sheep would be his lot for the rest of his life, until God appeared on the scene and declared otherwise. Moses' charge changed from tending sheep to leading his brethren out of slavery in Egypt, across the desert, and into the promised land. He was not qualified to challenge Pharaoh but the many years spent in the desert, looking after sheep, would more than qualify him to shepherd an entire population of slaves across the desert. He would know the sources of water and the dangers hidden in the desert far better than anyone else.

More than being equipped for the task, the task in itself held the broken dreams of Moses. It reached deep into Moses and awakened the desire of his heart, which was for justice, for liberty of his people, the children of Israel. God knew that, but He couldn't use Moses nor fulfill His purpose until Moses was no longer full of himself but ready to be led, filled and moved by the Spirit of the Living God.
Only the Author of Life knows what He has planned and purposed for each of His creation. Learning to hear His voice prepares us to respond when He calls.

Keep walking,
