Dunno what to make out of this

This evening, I had the opportunity to take bus number 52 from Clementi Ave 2 to Bishan where my office is. Normally I would have taken a cab as I was rushing back to office to finish some work but at 6.30pm, drizzling, and with no sign of any taxi that's available for hire, I hopped onto the first bus number 52 that came along.

It was crowded and since I was prepared for a long ride in the slow-moving rainy day evening traffic, I took the last seat available, which happened to be one that facing all the other seats. Shortly after, at the Ngee Ann Poly bus-stop, a young student couple, probably second or third year students, took the seats just in front of me.

As the bus moved off, the girl's bag fell off her lap onto my foot. She picked it up nonchalantly without any apology, and thrust the bag onto her boyfriend's lap, as if to say, "take care of it". They then held hands like any couple in love. A few stops later, they started kissing, tickling and fondling each other right in front of me. After trying for the umpteenth time not to even see what they were doing from the corner of my eyes, I whipped out my laptop and stared at the screen for some relief (when you are THAT close to an amorous couple, looking at a screen with The Lake House wallpaper is better than nothing. Trust me). Even when I closed my laptop after 30mins, they were still at it. I started looking anywhere except directly ahead. Really, had I snapped some shots of them, they wouldn't have noticed or cared.

Sigh... I wonder how their parents or siblings would have felt if they had seen the whole thing. Is this what a "fun" Singapore is supposed to be? Are these the product of our critically acclaimed academic system? Do lecturers, tutors & security guards have to bear with such behaviour on campus grounds? Or are they really the exception, rather than the norm?

I dunno. I don't think anyone has any answers. Life is just getting more thrashy by the day, if you ask me. I think I will take the cab next time.
