The sky looked beautiful as I peered out from the bus window this morning. I have been thinking about the insects that I read about in the children's books. The ants, the bees, and the bugs - they all go about with their daily duties, unperturbed by what lies ahead. Do they even think? Only God knows.
In many ways, we human beings are like that. Imagine God peering out to take a look at us - yes, we are still running around in circles. Every morning, masses of people will move from point A to point B, and every evening, they move back home, day after day, till the day of their passing. Why do we do what we do? If we are frank enough, we will find that a large part of what we do are meaningless stuff.
Let's start with work. How many of us do really meaningful work? Very few actually, including me.
What real work does a sales/marketing person do? Just trying to convince you to buy something. And the entertainer/model? Just tickling your senses. Sportsperson? Just providing some entertainment & excitement. Lawyer? Just entertaining people with money to spare. Politician? Just wasting time. IT expert? Just fixing all kinds of artificial problems. Police/armed forces? Just keeping the bad guys at bay. Bad guys? Just keeping the police/armed forces occupied. Government? Nanny. Administrative/Human Resource/Accounts/Finance personnel? Just supporting some businesses or organizations doing some meaningless work as outlined in this section. Stock trader/financial analyst? Just making businesses look like they are doing some real work. Bankers? Just helping people move monies. Businessman/Enterpreneur? They start businesses (what else)? Tycoons? Big-time businessmen. CEOs? They help tycoons and businessmen. Managers? They help CEOs. Bloggers? Waste time. Celebrity bloggers? Waste time while tickling your senses.
And I haven't even started on why we study to do the work that we do.
Now, think about some real work done by God himself. He created life and an entire system to sustain it. He created exquisite landscapes and elements, and an infinite variety of diverse lifeforms. He created the universe and everything in it. He set it all in motion. 6 days, no more, no less. The human race, on the other hand, laboured for thousands of years, went through different ages and revolutions, produced great thinkers and philosophers, and is still doing pointless stuff mostly.
Pathetic :(
Take a leaf from Jesus when He walked on earth. He healed, taught, counselled and ministered. That's real work.
