I felt my heart jump up to my throat when I saw the accident, barely 1 metre away from where I was. I sort of froze and could not react on time.
It was at the newly-renovated Tampines Swimming Complex. My daughters have grown to love the water slides. They had so much fun last weekend that they asked to be brought there again yesterday. Seeing how thrilled they were, Veron & I obliged.
The pool was not as packed as it was the previous Saturday. However, there were many big boys and girls. By "big", I mean in terms of age and size. My 4-year old 14kg daughter Rachel had just slid down the popular Yellow slide which is twice as long as the other slide - the Blue one. She was abruptly brought to a stop at the end of the slide by a kid in front who took a while to get up. Meanwhile, some other kids slid down and hit Rachel from the back. As the kid in front got up, he lost his balance, fell backwards and sat right on Rachel's outstretched & straightened legs. I looked in horror and thought he might have crushed her knees. He was all of about 50kg though he looked no older than 10 years of age.
Thoughts of my own knee injury flashed back in my mind. 4 months ago, I had such a bad injury on both my knees at an outdoor event that I was unable to walk without pain for about 2 weeks. The doctor pronounced me unable to run again (ever), as she coolly told me that my knees can snap any time.
A 50-kg kid sitting on little Rachel's skinny legs is like a sumo wrestler doing the same to me. I froze in horror; I have seen legs broken this way in WWF wrestling shows years ago. She, too, was shocked by the impact from being hit at the back and having her legs sat on by the boy. Moments later when she felt the pain, she started crying. I carried her out of the slide into the water, and repeatedly massaged her legs as I prayed for her. I was also angry at myself not intervening to prevent Rachel from being sat on.
It was yet another miracle for this little household. Rachel was alright. There wasn't even any blue-black. She could bend her knees & was able to stand up by herself. We thanked God for such a marvellous intervention. At our nightly prayers, we again gave thanks to God. Only He could have done something as wonderful as this.
Glory to God.

Hallelujah! Praise the Lord for watching over little Rachel. So glad that she is alright despite what she had to go through... guess it was also shocking to see that it is natural to freeze and feel lost at the time... In anyway, am thankful for God blessing little Rachel.
