You can't see rainbow without the rain

I wrote this song after a series of recent setbacks in my life & those of my friends and loved ones. Throughout these trials, God has ministered to me faithfully, and I know the only response needed from me is to trust God with all my heart, not leaning on my own understanding, but acknowledging Him in all His ways, and He will make my paths straight (Prov 3:5-6). God, thanks for helping me translate my feelings into this song.

This song is dedicated to God, the rainbow maker; my friend Yen and son, from whom I learned that there's no rainbow without the rain; to my brother Willy and his son little Matthew Mark who was recently diagnosed with Kawasaki disease: "God who makes the rainbow loves you and will heal & strengthen you"; to my friend Annie: "Jesus is your refuge & strength; keep shining".

May God be glorified and may you be edified.

Rainbow without the rain

You can't see rainbow without the rain
You can't have healing without the pain
You can't be free unless you've been in chains
That's when you learn to smile again

You can't get up unless you're down
But God will wipe away your frown
He is no fool who cries out loud
"Lord ... save me, don't let your servant drown"

Chorus
There's no joy without the sorrows
There are no healings where scars won't show
There's hope in Jesus for tomorrow
When the rain will give way
to the rainbow

At times you feel you're sifted like wheat
But victory's sweet when you've tasted defeat
You know it's not by might but by His Spirit
And you learn to
Worship at His feet

There's no mercy without the shame
You'll still be tainted without the flames
It was for you & me that Jesus came
So now we'll never
Never be the same
