My beloved brothers and sisters in Christ
On the morning of yesterday, I received a piece of news with a heavy heart. I learned that a good friend and sister in Christ is on the verge of losing her residual sight if nothing happens soon. My friend is Annie, a fellow volunteer with me with the Singapore Association for the Deaf. She is a spirited person, full of ideas and conviction in her cause. Through our brief interaction, she has demonstrated fervour and commitment in helping the deaf, even though she herself is partially blind & requires assistive technology to amplify her residual visual capabilities, just as I require assistive technology to amplify my residual hearing. In December last year, Annie even bravely put up an magical illusion act for children to bring in the Christmas cheer, though she shared that she was nervous. It's like asking me to sing in front of children, as a person with profound deafness.
Annie has eagerly lived each day trying to be as useful as she can because she won't know when or if she may lose her sight completely. John 9:4 says "As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work." Annie lives to seize the day, like most of us do, except that for Annie, evening seems to be approaching soon.
I ask that you join me in prayer for Annie. She serves the same Almighty God that you and I believe in. We may not know why God allows a young lady like Annie to go through this trial, but we can believe in God's ultimate purpose for Annie which will be for her good. Just as Job endured his trials and had the favour of God bestowed on him twice over, I believe God has only good things in store for Annie. I ask that you join me in asking & believing in God to intervene to prevent Annie from losing her sight altogether, and that God will strengthen & comfort her in this present moment. I ask that we approach the throne of God's grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and grace to help Annie in her time of need (Hebrews 4:16). Know that it's already hard enough to go through this; how much harder is it to have to go through this without crying, because crying will only speed up the deterioration of her sight?
The Bible says in John 10:10 that "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
I believe God will continue to bless Annie with a life of abundance, shining through her to dispel the darkness around her.
Please write a prayer from your heart to show your support for Annie as a fellow yoke-bearer in Christ. Your prayers and support will make a big difference.
In His Service,
Thomas
