When I was a kid, we loved shadow play. It amuses us to project shadows of creatures on walls, and having them fight each other. Sometimes the shadows don't look realistic, but with our added sound effects, there's no mistaking someone's bony fingers for the fearsome jaws of a T-rex.
Ever wondered why God created shadows? It's one of those mysteries, just like the eye-brow (my daughters haven't asked me why we need eye-brows, but if you have an answer, let me know fast, before they ask).
Well, at least for shadows, I know they give us a temporary respite from the searing heat of the noon-day sun. Our shadows? Well, they give ants, pets & our kids a temporary respite from the searing heat of the noon-day sun, especially if we are as tall as Yao Ming or as broad as Lin Yi Ming (Moses Lim).
If you are the apostle Peter after he was filled with the Holy Spirit, your shadow is worth more than an umbrella. No, it won't save you from a heat-seaking missile, but it can heal. Excuse me? Look at Acts 5: 14-16.
"Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number. As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by evil spirits, and all of them were healed."
Amazing, but this is how some of the seemingly powerless things can be used to maximum effect, when powered by the Holy Spirit. Likewise, ordinary folks like you and me can be turned into turbo-charged powerhouses when we wear the "Holy Spirit Inside" logo. Our shadows may not heal, the lame may not walk at the flick of our eye-brow (my hyper-imaginative mind at work again), but the Holy Spirit can certainly use us in more ways than we can imagine, with greater power than we know, to minister to the needs of those around us.
If you have not experienced the power of the Holy Spirit in your life, you can do so anytime today. No need to dial 1800-GETHOLYSPIRIT. Just ask God in prayer.
Luke 11: 13 says "If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!""
May God bless you and transform you into a powerhouse for Him,
Thomas
