Hosea 14:5 "I will be like the dew to Israel; he will blossom like a lily."
It's been pouring lately, and I must admit I have even wished at times that the rain will be less frequent. I guess it's just natural for us human beings. We love the sun (minus the UV radiation), and all things sunny.
A sunny day means outdoor activities. We are free to roam, free to explore, and when it gets too hot, just pop into any air-conditioned shopping mall, and do mall things like window shopping, collect free gifts, eat for free at supermarket promotion counters, etc. Therefore,
SUN = FUN
A rainy day means indoor activities. We roam till we hit the walls, which won't take too long unless you live in the Istana. Exploring rooms and toilets isn't exactly interesting when we are talking about your own house. And of course, you can't do mall things, unless you live in serviced apartments above shopping malls (hey, maybe that's why some people choose to live in serviced apartments, huh?). Anyway,
RAIN = PAIN
We human beings are not the only species programmed with these formula; I think it applies to birds too. On sunny days, I see sparrows hopping around, chirping happily, and even more so when they chance upon food crumbs, like the way our eyes brighten up when we chance upon some new Campbell soup promotion counter at the mall. On the other hand, when it rains, even mynahs look grumpy with their rain-soaked feathers all dishevelled. Cats, however, are a different species altogether - on sunny days, they sleep; on rainy days, they snooze; perhaps it has something to do with their DNA, but then, I digressed.
Water - it is life-giving and life-sustaining in the physical realm. The flowers blossom as a result of being bathed daily with fresh dew from the heavens. Psalm 42:1 talks about the deer panting for some water. Without water, no plant or creature can survive.
This holds true in the spiritual realm too. God says in Jeremiah 2:13 "They have forsaken me, the spring of living water", and in John 4:13, Jesus said "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
God is the spring of living water that leads to eternal life. This water gives us spiritual life and sustains it. Apart from this water, no one survives.
If you have not drunk of this water, you can do so by inviting Jesus to come into your life. You do not need to go through any ceremony or initiation. Just ask God in a simple prayer like this:
"Father in Heaven,
I know that I am a sinner and I need your forgiveness. I believe that Your Son Jesus died in my place, to pay the penalty for my sin, and rose again for my salvation.
I want to turn from my sinful ways,so I now ask you, Lord Jesus, to come into my life as my Savior and my Lord.
In Jesus name I pray,
Amen."
If you have drunk of the living water at some point in your life, but have since drifted apart from God, may I urge you to return to the spring of living water. He is ever willing to bathe you, refresh you, and sustain you with His Living Water. As the flower looks forward to fresh dew each morning, and as the deer pants for the water, let's soak ourselves in God's presence & love, always.
God bless you,
Thomas
