Many years ago, a friend asked me during our college days "can God create a rock so huge and heavy that he cannot even lift it?". I could not give him an answer as I was a new believer at that time. Even now, I would not have an answer to that, but I do know God better after reading His Word all these years.
Jesus Himself said in Matthew 4:7 when tempted by the devil to cast Himself from the pinnacle of the temple that "it is written, Thou shall not make trial of the Lord thy God." Again, in Matthew 12:38 - 40, when asked by the Pharisees and scribes to give them a sign (that Jesus is indeed the Son of God), He replied them that "an evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign, and there shall no sign be given, but the sign of Jonah the prophet...".
I think the problem with us human beings is that we reason too much. We want to appease our intellect. We do not accept anything that we are not convinced of, unless we have evidence of the form and kind that suits us, because we don't want to look like fools Yet, we don't realize how foolish we are in thinking this way.
It reminds me of the story of a woman who lost a coin at night. She tried to look for her coin in vain in an area around a lamppost. When someone asked her whether she thought she dropped her coin there, she said no, she believed it was somewhere else, but she looked around here because there was light.
If we refuse to open the Bible and see for ourselves the many prophecies and evidence concerning Jesus and the world which have been fulfilled, and instead ask for evidence and signs elsewhere, we are going to be disappointed BIG TIME like this woman; we will never find what we are looking for. If all we lose at the end of the day is a coin, no big deal. But we are not talking about losing a coin here; it's a life we are talking about.
Put aside all our selfish reasonings. Stop thinking that if God loves me, then He will show Himself to me, or show me signs so that I will believe in Him. God has already shown Himself to the world. He came in the form of Jesus, and did all the miracles that no one else could. And not only that, He died for us, just so that our sins can be forgiven, and we can be reconciled to God. It's all written in the Bible. All these things happened long before you were born. You say. "it's not fair, I wasn't born yet; if God shows Himself to me today, I will believe Him." Is that so? There were those who walked with God, felt the presence of God, fed and led by God, saw all the miracles, who eventually turned their back on God, not one, or two, but generations of them. I believe God has given us sufficient evidence and reasons in the Bible. Read it today, if you haven't.
